Fidel Castro was a guest in Brno Villa

He died Nov. 26th, 2016 Fidel Castro - a charismatic revolutionary and harsh communist dictator. The man who visited Czechoslovakia three times including visit at so called "Government villa" known today under the name of the original builders.

Unfortunately, not much is known about Brno visit of "El Comandante". It was most likely within the six-day trip to Czechoslovakia in June 1972. Castro traveled to Czechoslovakia also on two short visits in 1973 and 1986.

On June 21st, 1972 Castro flew to Prague, where he received the Order of the White Lion and numerous doctorate from Charles University. In the following days he participated on the official program in Bratislava, Nitra, Stary Smokovec and Tatranska Javorina. On June 26th he flew back to Cuba from Prague Airport. The program was great - including shooting of chamois in the Tatra or a gala reception at the Czernin Palace.

The journey to Brno is not recorded anywhere. It lacks in contemporary reportage, for example in the longest slide entitled "Six days with Fidel Castro", but it is underpinned by a series testimony. The exact date is not known, probably goes on June 22nd. For now, we could not trace any archival document or photo. National Heritage Institute as administrator of the house Stiassni therefore calls on all those who would see Fidel Castro in Brno to submit any information to come forward.
